There is not a single traditional road in this beautiful village situated on the slopes of the mountains, yet life here moves at a very relaxed and fast pace.

When the roof of one house becomes the courtyard of another

The biggest feature of Masuleh village is its terraced design. This village is situated on the slopes of the Alborz mountains in such a way that the strong roof of the house built below serves as a path, courtyard and road for the house built immediately above it. This is the reason why it is called the world’s unique ‘Roof Village’. The people living here have been traveling through the entire village passing through each other’s roofs for generations.

No noise of vehicles, no tension of pollution

People living here and tourists coming from all over the world roam only on foot. Local people use hand carts to transport goods. This place is no less than a paradise for those looking for peace away from the traffic and pollution of cities.

Markets and cafes are decorated on rooftops

The rooftops of Masuleh are not just a way of transportation, but local markets are held on these rooftops, where people sell hand-made clothes, traditional handicrafts and artefacts. Small beautiful cafes and restaurants have been built on the rooftops for tourists, where people sit and enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains while sipping traditional Iranian tea.
