There is often a debate in India that if someone gets a job worth crores in a foreign country and there is a good salary offer in India too, then what would be the better option? Some people give priority to family and their country, while many people believe that the freedom, better facilities and working environment available abroad is more important.
Recently, on this issue, Instagram creator Omung Chaudhary asked an interesting question to two Indian women working in America. She wanted to know that if she had to choose between a job of 2 lakh dollars (about Rs 1.9 crore) per year in America and a job of Rs 40 lakh per year in India, which would she choose? Both women chose America’s option without thinking much. He said that his choice is not only because of money, but also because of the freedom, better lifestyle and working environment available there.
Why chose America’s option?
According to Umang Chaudhary’s earlier post, the names of these two women are Tanushree and Shivani. Tanushree is from Delhi, while Shivani is from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Currently both are working in Salesforce company in America. Tanushree is holding the position of Senior Success Guide, while Shivani is fulfilling her responsibilities as Senior Technical Support Engineer.
During the conversation, both of them told that at present their annual income is between 1.30 lakh dollars to 1.50 lakh dollars. Despite this, when they were asked whether they would like to return to India and do a job worth Rs 40 lakh if they got an offer of 2 lakh dollars, then both of their answers were clearly in favor of America. Shivani told that she had earlier worked in India also on a package of about Rs 40 lakh. Therefore, for her it was not just a matter of hope, rather she had already had experience of this type of job. Despite this, she said that if given a chance, she would choose a job worth 2 lakh dollars in America.
He said that the biggest reason for him to come to America is not economic but personal freedom. Here people do not interfere unnecessarily in the lives of others and live their lives without judging. He likes this environment very much. According to Shivani, this is the reason why she wants to live in America for now. However, she also said that if these things had not happened then perhaps she would have definitely thought about coming back to India.
Life is comfortable in America
Tanushree’s opinion was also similar. He said that the lifestyle and everyday facilities available in America make his decision easy. According to him, the open environment, clean air and good basic facilities here make life more comfortable. Giving an example, he said that here even tap water is drinkable directly, which is a small but important part of a better standard of living for them.
During the conversation, both the women also gave candid information about their earnings and expenses. She told that even after tax is deducted, she saves about 50 percent of her earnings. That means, along with living a good life, they are also saving a good amount for the future. He told that every month the rent of his house comes to around $1,600. Apart from this, about $400 is spent on electricity, internet and other necessary facilities. After these necessary expenses, she uses the remaining amount on shopping, traveling and other things of her choice.
Tanushree believes that life is not just about saving money. He said that a person lives only once, hence along with saving, it is also important to spend on oneself. He says that if you are earning good money by working hard then you should also enjoy it. She also told that she plans to travel somewhere every two-three months. He likes to travel to different national parks, natural places and other cities of America. This gives them relief from work stress and also gives them a chance to see new places.
This conversation between the two women is much discussed on social media. Many people agreed with his views, while some people believe that it is equally important to live in India because of family, belongingness and social relations.
