A video from Pune is going viral on social media these days and after seeing it, people are openly giving their opinion regarding the safety of women, cab service and driver’s behavior. In the video, three women were traveling in a pre-booked private cab at night. The journey was going on normally, but after some time something happened which they had not expected at all. According to the video, the driver suddenly stopped the cab on the way and told the women that he also wanted to take one of his friends in the car. He told the women to adjust a bit because his friend would accompany him only for a short distance.
The three women were surprised to hear this from the driver. He said that he had booked the entire cab for himself, so it is not at all right to make an unknown person sit in the car midway. The women clearly told the driver that if they had known about this in advance, they probably would have booked another cab. He said that he does not feel safe traveling in the same vehicle with an unknown person at night. His question was that when he had paid for a private ride, then why was someone else being made to sit midway.
Woman taught cab driver a lesson
After the women protested, the driver tried to explain his point. He said that his friend would accompany him only for about a kilometer and there was a reason behind this. The driver claimed that there was very little CNG left in his cab. If he does not leave his friend first, he may face trouble in coming back later. That’s why he wanted to take his friend with him on the way. However, this reason also did not seem right to the women. He said that the driver’s fuel related problems cannot be his responsibility.
He said that when a customer books a full cab, he expects that the journey will be as planned. It cannot be considered right to change the rules in the middle of the journey or to ask someone else to sit with you. During the argument, the driver also told the women that if they were not ready to accommodate his friend, they could get down here and book another cab. Hearing this the women became even more angry. She said that she was traveling in a pre-booked cab and it was not at all appropriate to ask her to take another cab midway.
After this the women asked many questions to the driver. She said that when she is paying the fare for the entire journey then why should someone else be allowed to sit in the same cab for free. If she had to share the cab with someone, she could have chosen the sharing facility from the beginning. He also asked whether any discount would be given on his fare or whether the driver would take the fare from his friend. To this question the driver replied that why would he take money from his friend. Hearing this, the women said that it simply means that they are indirectly bearing the expenses of someone else’s travel, even though they had not given consent to any such arrangement. He said that this is not just a matter of money but also a question of security and trust.
It can be further seen in the video that during the argument, the driver gets down from the car and talks in Marathi to a person standing outside. It is being told that he was his friend whom he wanted to take in the cab. But the women did not change their point and clearly refused that they would not allow any unknown person to travel with them in the cab.
During the entire conversation, the women kept saying that safety is the biggest priority at night. He said that it is not right to expect such a thing from any traveller, especially women, without informing them beforehand. He believed that if the driver had to drop his friend somewhere, he should have made his own personal arrangements and not asked the passengers to compromise. As soon as the video of this incident surfaced on social media, people reacted fiercely to it.
