Nowadays, changing jobs in the IT sector has become quite common. People often move to new companies in the hope of better salary, new post and career growth, but is it wise to accept a higher package every time? A tech professional from Bengaluru expressed his opinion regarding this, after which his video went viral among the people.
He shared his experience on his Insta @growth_spree. Which forced many employed people to think. In the video, he told that at this time people think of changing jobs only for more money, which is not always right. Especially when your current job is stable and the company environment is good.
Why should one not change job?
While sharing the story of one of his friends, Sunny Kumar told that his friend was working in MasterCard in Pune. His job was secure, salary was good and performance was also good. Overall, career was moving in the right direction. During this time, he got a job offer from a consultancy firm, in which his current salary was about 60% more.
Such a strong offer can create greed in anyone’s mind. He accepted a new job for a better salary and left Mastercard. Initially everything seemed fine and he felt that he had taken a great decision for his career, but after a few months the situation changed. The project for which his friend was recruited was lost by the company. After this the company had no strong option left for it. It was told that about six months after joining, he faced a situation where he either had to resign himself or risk being fired from the job.
This incident became a big example for Sunny Kumar. He says that in today’s time, taking the decision to change job just by looking at the salary can be risky. He also said that even if someone is getting an offer of salary increase of 60 percent, 70 percent or even 100 percent, one should avoid taking hasty decisions.
Many times big companies give comparatively less salary, but there is job stability, good process and opportunities to build a long-term career. On the other hand, some small or project based companies offer higher salaries, but there may also be uncertainty associated with them. This advice of Sunny Kumar spread rapidly on social media and reached millions of people. However, people’s opinion on this was not uniform. Some users supported his point and said that job security is really very important in the present times. He believes that a stable career with a slightly lower salary sometimes proves to be more beneficial.
