
There has been a big change in the Indian Navy. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsyayan has taken over as the Chief of the Western Naval Command. He assumed the new responsibility in a military ceremony held in Mumbai. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsyayan assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai on Saturday. Before this, he was posted as Vice Chief of Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters.
After assuming charge, he paid tribute to the brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice in the service of the country at the Gaurav Stambh located at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
Got commission in Navy in 1988
Vice Admiral Vatsyayan is a senior officer of the Indian Navy. He got commission in the Navy on 1 January 1988. Vatsyayan, an expert in gunnery and missile systems, has commanded many warships in his long military career. He has commanded major warships like INS Sahyadri, INS Kuthar, INS Vibhuti and INS Nashak. Apart from this, he has also been the Commander of the Eastern Naval Fleet and Deputy Commandant of the National Defense Academy (NDA).
Responsibility for security of western maritime area
For his excellent services in the Navy, he has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Navy Medal. The Western Naval Command is considered one of the most important commands of the Indian Navy and is responsible for the security of the western maritime region of the country.
