The death toll after the deadly earthquake in Venezuela has increased to more than 500, while more than 2900 people have been injured. The country’s acting President Delsey Rodriguez gave this information to government broadcaster VTV. According to CNN report, Rodriguez said on Friday that the death toll has increased to 589, while 2,980 people have been injured. This update comes at a time when rescue operations are underway to rescue people trapped under the debris during the crucial ‘golden window’ of 72 hours after the earthquake.
CNN reported that the death toll is expected to rise significantly as search teams search for more victims. “We have lost no sleep trying to save people’s lives,” Rodriguez said. He also appreciated the international help and arrival of emergency teams. He said that we have saved the lives of dozens of people. According to VTV, search and rescue teams are focusing on La Guaira state, the worst-hit area after a series of deadly earthquakes.
Store center for food, water and medicines established
According to reports, the government said it has also set up a stockpile of food, water and medicines for people in need at the Foreign Ministry in Caracas. Indeed, humanitarian aid efforts continue in Venezuela, as hundreds of citizens have volunteered to deliver water, food, medicine and other essential items to the affected communities of Carabalda and Vargas.
India extended a helping hand
Meanwhile, India has also extended its helping hand to Venezuela. India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday announced that India has launched ‘Operation Amistad’ to help earthquake-hit Venezuela, in which two ‘C-17’ aircraft of the Indian Air Force have left with a field hospital and over 35 tonnes of relief material, including medicines, medical equipment and two Bhishma Cubes, which are designed to provide immediate emergency medical help in disaster situations.
