Punjab government has decided to implement VB-G RAM G (Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission) scheme. The state government has issued the notification to implement the scheme. This scheme will be implemented from July 1. Earlier, the Punjab government had also passed a resolution against it in the Assembly.
Under the scheme, arrangements have been made to guarantee 125 days of employment to rural families in a financial year. Now rural families will get guaranteed employment of 125 days in a financial year. This scheme has been prepared keeping in mind the vision of ‘Developed India@2047’.
Let us tell you that the Central Government had brought the Developed India-Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission Rural Act by repealing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. This bill was passed by the Parliament in December last year, after which it got the approval of the President.
The Congress-led UPA government started MGNREGA in 2005. Under this, rural families were guaranteed 100 days of work in a year. Now under the new law, the number of guaranteed working days has increased to 125.
Punjab government opposed the act
Five opposition-ruled states, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Telangana and Jharkhand, had passed resolutions opposing the VB-G Ram G Act and demanding the restoration of the MGNREGA scheme. The Punjab government had argued that the VB-GRAM G Act would have an adverse impact on families living below the poverty line, Scheduled Caste communities and rural laborers who depend on MGNREGA for their livelihood.
What did the government say?
However, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan expressed confidence that the VB-G Ram G Act will usher in a new era in the lives of workers. He said that this scheme will promote activities like water conservation and development of rural infrastructure and roads, bridges, culverts, schools and Anganwadi buildings can be built. The central government allocated a budget of more than Rs 95,600 crore for this scheme in the financial year 2026-27.
The scheme will be implemented from July 1
Shivraj Chouhan said, the VB GRAM-G scheme is being implemented from July 1, which should ensure a completely smooth and employee-centric transition without any disruption. He said, this is not just a change in a scheme, but it is a matter related to the lives and livelihood of crores of workers. Not a single laborer should remain without work even for a day. There should be no hindrance in employment generation, payment of wages or legal rights.
He said that the Central Government had already allocated Rs 30,000 crore under MGNREGA. With this new allocation, the total funds under the scheme exceed Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
