
Varun Dhawan Seeks Personality Rights: Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’ is going to hit the theaters on June 5. Even before its release, this film seems to be embroiled in controversies and meanwhile Varun Dhawan has reached the court. Varun Dhawan has approached Delhi High Court for personality rights. Varun Dhawan’s name has been included in the list of new Bollywood celebrities who have sought legal protection for their ‘personality rights’. Delhi High Court has issued an interim order against misuse of his identity online. The court has ordered the removal of objectionable and misused content related to the actor on social media and digital platforms.

Delhi High Court has heard this matter and given an important order. Now the High Court has taken a strict stand regarding Varun Dhawan on fake AI videos, deepfakes, obscene materials and merchandise being sold without permission on social media and the internet. Delhi High Court clearly said that misuse of the personality rights of the actor i.e. his identity, face, name and image will not be tolerated.

Justice Jyoti Singh Bench in Delhi High Court also ordered social media intermediaries to ensure that the actor’s name, image and voice are not used in any form or manner. Also ordered to remove deepfake photos and videos from social media in which Varun Dhawan’s picture, face or identity is being falsified. This interim order came when Dhawan approached the court regarding misuse of his personality online. According to the instructions issued, the platform hosting such content will have to remove it and take steps to stop its further publication through digital and media channels.
What did the court say?
During the hearing in Delhi High Court, Varun Dhawan’s lawyer showed many such links to the court, in which fake merchandise was being sold using the actor’s name and face. Not only this, deepfake videos and obscene material created through AI were also shown, due to which there was a fear of harming the actor’s image. The court said that a list of all the objectionable links related to this case should be made and filed in the court by Friday, after which the court will pass an interim protection order.
