Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: ‘He still has a child, wait’… Why did Agarkar say this after choosing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?

Career of only 23 IPL matches, only 15 years of age and level is straight international. Now this can be said openly for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who destroyed big bowlers with the roar of his bat in IPL 2026, has been called for international cricket for the first time. Fulfilling all the expectations, speculations and demands, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has selected Vaibhav in the T20 team. But meanwhile, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, who selected Vaibhav, was asked such a question that he had to avoid it citing Vaibhav’s age.

Why did Agarkar say this as soon as he was selected in the team?

BCCI Men’s Selection Committee meeting was held on Saturday 6th June, in which T20 team for Ireland and England tour Was selected. Apart from this, T20 squad was also announced for the Asian Games and Vaibhav has got a place in all three. With this, he has become the youngest player to be selected in the Indian men’s team by breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar. When Sachin was 16 years old, he was selected in the team for the first time in 1989.

Vaibhav has just made a place in the T20 team but there is curiosity to see him in the Test format as well. Agarkar was questioned about this in the press conference. In response, Agarkar said, “For now, we have opted for the same format in which he has performed well. Red ball, he is still a kid. He is just starting his journey. When the domestic season starts and he plays some red ball cricket, we will wait till then. Why such a hurry?”

How is Vaibhav in red ball cricket?

Now in white ball cricket, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has shown the power of his bat but can he stand in front of the red ball? This is a question which has been raised many times and his critics also mention it. But Vaibhav has impressed even in his short red ball career. Before becoming a hit in IPL, Vaibhav had scored a brilliant century against Australia in the Under-19 Test match in 2024. However, he has not played many matches in Ranji Trophy and has been able to score only 207 runs in 8 matches. But even in this format he has batted at a strike rate of 90 only.
