Use of third party AI will be costly for WhatsApp business people! The company played a new bet

July 3, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has introduced a new pricing model that will make using chatbots from rival AI models like ChatGPT and Claude significantly more expensive for business accounts. This means that if any person with a WhatsApp business account uses the AI models of these third party apps, then it may cost them a lot to do so. From October 1, the cost of AI conversations on WhatsApp from third party models could be almost double for business accounts compared to Meta AI. At present, WhatsApp does not charge any fee for the use of AI agents.

Meta AI cheap, third party bots expensive

According to Economic Times, released on July 1 WhatsApp A sample calculator based on Google’s updated developer documentation showed that complex interactions driven by other bots could cost business accounts up to $968 (about Rs. 92285) per 10,000 messages (depending on the token used), while using Meta AI would cost $400 (about Rs. 38134) to $500 (about Rs. 47668). It will cost Rs.

Big companies will have to evaluate

Experts say that this step may cause loss to those business partners who have created chatbots using models like Claude, GPT, Mistral, Qwen and Kimi. Aniket Jain, co-founder of enterprise messaging startup Fyno, said this price difference is not a discount, it is a punishment for choosing your model. It punishes those Indian startups that have grown their business using best models. He said that due to this some clients may decide to leave WhatsApp completely.

Bill may increase due to token system

Another concern of companies is that token-based pricing can sometimes lead to bill shock because usage cannot be predicted in advance. CleverTap said, token-based pricing requires proper governance. There can be a huge difference in the cost of a simple query and a long, complex conversation, so brands need to know how much is being used, what the spend alerts are, what the fallback rules are and what the routing logic is. Additionally, they should also be clear about when automation is truly helpful and when a simple workflow is better.
