What do experts say?

Fareha Shanam, senior dietician of Gangaram Hospital, Delhi, says that generally packaged rusks are made from flour, which has very less fiber. Apart from this, refined oil, sugar and sometimes extra flavoring agents are also added to them. Due to the preservatives and refined oil, they can be harmful for health. Because refined oil is subjected to high temperatures and chemicals during processing, due to which some of its natural nutrients can be reduced. At the same time, consuming it with too many fried foods increases the risk of bad cholesterol in the body and heart related problems.

Experts say that consumption of food containing refined oil for a long time can increase inflammation in the body and can also affect the metabolism. Therefore, they should be consumed in limited quantities only.
