In Himachal Pradesh, mail will now be delivered to homes using drones. The Indian Postal Department has taken a historic initiative to connect the postal delivery system in the hilly and difficult areas of the state with modern technology. For the first time, a successful trial of delivering mail through drones has been conducted in Mandi district. Due to which the work that takes hours in difficult areas is being completed in minutes. There is an atmosphere of happiness in the surrounding areas due to this initiative of the Postal Department started on the Mandi-Rehardhar road of the state.

He said that earlier it used to take hours to travel through inaccessible areas, now this journey will be completed in just 7 minutes with real time tracking. The special thing about this eco-friendly initiative is that it has been prepared on the basis of feedback given during several interactions with Gramin Dak Sevaks and Dak Assistants. Scindia said that inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are using technology to strengthen our postal services, so that even the remotest areas of India can be connected to the opportunities and services of the rapidly changing nation.

Drone took off from Mandi Head Post Office
According to the information, this initiative has been started with the joint efforts of the Indian Postal Department and private company Skye Air. In the test conducted on Friday (June 12), the drone took off from the Mandi head post office and delivered mail to the Rehadhar branch post office in Drang area. After dropping the mail there, the drone returned to Mandi with the day’s return mail from Rehardhar.
Revolutionary change in postal delivery system
According to Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Mandi Postal Department, the drone completed the difficult route of about 12 kilometers in just 6 minutes. Under normal circumstances, it takes several hours or a whole day to deliver mail to this inaccessible area by road. In such a situation, drone technology will prove to be a revolutionary change in the mail delivery system. It is being told that the drone being used for this mail transportation is capable of carrying a load of up to 10 kg and can easily cover a distance of 30 to 50 kilometers at a time.
This drone postal service is being operated in collaboration with Sky Air Company at about 150 places across the country. At present 10 places in Mandi district have been linked to this project. Presently the company is providing its services at various places in Mandi through 8 drones.
