The first round of peace talks between America and Iran is going to be held in Switzerland. US Vice President JD Vance has arrived to take part in this conversation. This talk is taking place after the US-Iran interim peace agreement signed last week. In this agreement, both the countries have been given time for talks to find a permanent solution within 60 days.
According to the report, America wants Iran to allow United Nations (UN) inspectors to visit its nuclear sites in the first round of talks. The last inspection of these locations was in June 2025. In return, America is ready to give some part of its frozen money to Iran. It could start with the $6 billion stuck in Qatar. This money will be used for food items, medicines and other humanitarian needs.
Who is participating in the talks?
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati will participate in the talks to be held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland. At the same time, Pakistan is also playing the role of mediator. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir have also reached there.
JD Vance has said that his aim is to create a strong framework for negotiations. He expressed hope that a way forward would be found on issues like Iran’s nuclear program and the Israel-Lebanon conflict.
Intelligence agencies warn about Netanyahu
However, American intelligence agencies have warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may create obstacles in this peace process. According to the report, due to domestic political pressure he wants to continue action against Hezbollah in Lebanon. This may affect America-Iran talks.
Meanwhile, there is tension regarding the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump has said that during the 60-day talks, there will be no duty on ships passing through there. But he also warned that if the peace deal is not successful, the US may impose tariffs in the future.
