The US Navy’s MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter crashed during an emergency water landing in the Arabian Sea. One crew member has gone missing in this accident, while three others are injured. According to a US Navy statement, the helicopter crashed at 3:30 am (EDT) on July 1. These helicopters are from USS George H.W. Bush (Nimitz-class) aircraft carrier. The Navy said in its statement that this was not due to the attack.
For this, a rescue operation is being conducted and the missing crew member is being searched. The Navy said that there were four crew members on board the helicopter, out of which three were rescued in injured condition, while one is still missing. No information was given about the missing crew member. According to the Navy, “US Navy ships and other resources in the area are still searching for the missing crew members.” “The cause of the incident is being investigated.”
Two aircraft were stationed here
The USS George W. Bush has been a key part of the US Navy’s deployment in the Middle East amid ongoing tensions with Iran. It has been present in the Middle East region since April 2026 and is one of two US aircraft carriers deployed in the region.
According to the Middle East Institute, the US Navy’s fleet in the Middle East operates from ‘Naval Support Activity’ in Bahrain. This Fifth Fleet is active in the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. This fleet is responsible for operations in important areas of conflict, such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
American army also on high alert
US Central Command reported on June 24 that USS George H.W. Bush is one of two aircraft carriers operating in the Middle East. Landing a helicopter on water can be dangerous. Even for experienced pilots, such aircraft can capsize when submerged due to their heavy topography.
In view of the increasing incidents of violence intermittently during the ceasefire between US and Iran, the US Army is also on high alert in this area. After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at ending the war, the US and Iran have agreed to stop attacks and ships are allowed to move freely through the area. The talks include discussions on arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade of Iranian ports and the removal of sanctions on Iran, and the future of Iran’s reserves of highly enriched uranium.
