The US government will conduct hormone tests for soldiers above 30 years of age. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced this on Wednesday. He said that it will be necessary for soldiers above 30 years of age to undergo testosterone test once a year. Its purpose is to remove the deficiency of testosterone i.e. its hormone in the soldiers, so that the soldiers can work with full strength and capacity.
Hegseth also said that after testing those soldiers who are found deficient, they will also be given ‘Testosterone Replacement Therapy’ if needed, so that the level of testosterone in the soldiers’ body is correct, so that they can work to their full potential. He said in a video message that science also believes that with increasing age the level of testosterone in the body naturally starts decreasing.
Medical examination of soldiers will be done every year
According to the US Defense Secretary, now American soldiers 30 years of age or older will undergo medical examination every year. In this the level of testosterone in his body will be measured. If a soldier is found deficient in this hormone in his body, then he can take ‘hormone replacement therapy’ as per his wish. Soldiers below 30 years of age can also request for this test.
Democrats raised questions on this decision
This decision has come when the Health Department of the US Government has announced to ease some old strict rules related to testosterone treatment. However, Democrats have raised questions on this decision. He says that the government had banned hormone treatment of transgender soldiers some time ago. Opposition leaders (Summer Lee and Senator Tammy Duckworth) say that when the government is giving hormone replacement treatment to common soldiers, it is also a kind of ‘gender-affirming care’. Then why separate rules for transgender soldiers?
