
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Ermini for his warm welcome and respect. PM Modi was awarded the Guardian of the Blue Horizon award. He dedicated this honor to all the countries struggling with climate change and to the efforts of environmental protection. The Prime Minister said that 2026 is a historic year of both India-Seychelles diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence.
India reiterated that the Indian Ocean is a common heritage and its security, stability and prosperity is the common responsibility of both the countries. MAHASAGAR Vision is based on this thinking. Both the leaders agreed to make the economic partnership stronger and future-ready under the joint vision released in February 2026. Work will be done to increase connectivity between India and Seychelles, which will strengthen trade as well as connectivity with East Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
MoU signed to implement UPI
Here India will share its experience in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). MoU signed to implement UPI in Seychelles. India mentioned the ongoing projects in sectors like housing, transport, skill development, food security, education and defense under the $175 million special economic package. Virtual ground breaking of the Professional and Technical Center for skill development of Seychelles youth. Increasing cooperation in the health sector, an MoU was signed on the Jan Aushadhi Scheme, which will help in providing affordable and quality medicines in Seychelles.
Mutual agreement reached in these areas
Both countries agreed to increase cooperation in green hydrogen, clean energy and climate action. India will share its expertise in blue economy, marine science, ocean observation and coastal management. To give new impetus to space cooperation, MoU was also signed in the space sector.
The Prime Minister said that the defense and maritime security of India and Seychelles are interconnected, hence cooperation in this area will be further strengthened. Both the countries also agreed to promote sports, youth, yoga and cultural exchange. Prime Minister Modi said that India envisions an Indian Ocean where economic prosperity along with security increases and partnership is based on mutual respect and trust. At the end of his address, PM Modi said that our vision is to make the Indian Ocean an Ocean of Opportunity. That is, making the Indian Ocean an ocean of opportunities is the common vision of India and Seychelles.
