UP: Ban on weapon display and DJ in Muharram, CM Yogi said – this is an opportunity to mourn, not to show strength

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given strict instructions regarding the upcoming Moharram. He has said that this is an occasion for mourning, not for a show of strength. During Moharram, any kind of display of weapons, introduction of new tradition and uncontrolled use of ear-splitting DJ, drums and playing cards will not be allowed. He said that strict action will be taken against those who disturb peace.

While giving a high-level review of the state’s law and order and preparations for the upcoming festivals through video conferencing on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that all the District Magistrates and SPs should establish communication in advance regarding the arrangements for Moharram and ensure that there is no incident of tampering with law and order in any district.

Referring to earlier incidents, CM Yogi directed that effective control should be maintained on the uncontrolled use of noisy DJs, drums and cards. He said that no weapons of any kind should be displayed in Muharram processions. Also, to avoid any kind of accident, the height of the crowns should be kept as per the prescribed standards.

Crowns more than 10-12 feet high are not allowed.

The Chief Minister said that crowns more than 10-12 feet high should not be allowed. He said that everyone’s faith should be respected, but creation of a new tradition will not be acceptable under any circumstances. All Divisional Commissioners, District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, Zonal Additional Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police and senior government level officials were present in the meeting.

Moharram is the first and holy month of the Islamic calendar, which is associated with the martyrdom of Hazrat Muhammad and Imam Hussain. It is also called the month of sorrow. There is no happiness in this. The Islamic New Year begins from the first day of this month. It is also called Hijri. Moharram is one of the four sacred months of the Islamic calendar. People of Shia community celebrate it.
