Banvir Singh And Harendra Kumar: The Appeal Panel (ADAP) of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has banned discus thrower Banveer Singh for seven years for violating doping rules. This decision is two years more than the five-year sentence given earlier by the disciplinary committee. Last year, NADA’s Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee (ADDP) had banned Banvir Singh for five years from December 23, 2024 after he was found positive for the steroid methandienone. Now the appeal panel has increased this period to seven years.
Big action on Banveer Singh
Banveer Singh was already banned for two years. He had failed to provide information about his residence thrice within 12 months, due to which his ban was extended till December 22. Now after the new decision of ADAP, his total ban has become seven years. NADA has not given any official information about the reasons behind increasing this punishment.
37 year old Banveer Singh has become one of the oldest Indian players to be banned due to doping. His career has not been very successful. He had achieved second place in the Indian Grand Prix held in Bhubaneswar in 2022, but apart from this he could never make it to the top three in his entire career.
Harendra Kumar also banned
Meanwhile, long distance runner Harendra Kumar has also become a victim of doping. He has been banned for four years from August 2 this year. Earlier in August 2022, he was banned for four years after he tested positive for the banned substance darbepoetin. Both these cases again highlight the problem of doping in Indian sports. NADA is taking strict action, but at the same time the question arises that better awareness and support system is needed to keep athletes away from doping.
