Former president K. was one of the biggest faces of Tamil Nadu BJP. Annamalai finally broke his ties with the party and announced the formation of his own new political party. A few hours before this, BJP issued a press release and formally accepted his resignation. This decision of Annamalai has not only created a new stir in the politics of Tamil Nadu, but has also raised questions on the efforts of the BJP leadership through which efforts were made to retain him in the party.
According to sources, Annamalai reached Delhi on June 2 and submitted his resignation to the top leadership. National Organization General Secretary of Annamalai BJP in Delhi, B.L. Separate meetings were held with Santosh, National President Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It was believed within the party that the purpose of these meetings was to persuade Annamalai and stop her by giving her a new role within the BJP. The BJP leadership did not want to lose him.
Decision to resign not changed
Despite staying in Delhi for two consecutive days, no formula could be found between Annamalai and the BJP leadership, which could change the decision of his resignation. They had some serious differences regarding the direction of the party in Tamil Nadu, the functioning of the state unit and future political strategy. Annamalai stayed in Delhi for two days and in the meantime people like Tamil Nadu State President Nayanar Nagendran and Sangh ideologue S Guru Murthy tried to mediate but things did not work out.

According to sources, Annamalai wanted to become the face and center of BJP in Tamil Nadu and tour the entire state and in this sequence, his intention was to make the entire party follow his instructions. But, BJP state unit and important leaders of the state were not in favor of it. Therefore, Annamalai stayed in Delhi for 2 days but the matter did not progress further and further meetings were not possible. BJP leaders tried to convince him, but Annamalai remained adamant on his decision. Finally on Friday the party accepted his resignation.
New political party announced
Shortly after the resignation was accepted, Annamalai announced his new political initiative. He said that there is a need for a new political option in Tamil Nadu and his new political journey will proceed keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections.
Annamalai indicated that his new organization would later take the form of a full-fledged political party and would contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Annamalai has been given credit by a section for increasing the support base of BJP in Tamil Nadu. In such a situation, his exit is being considered a big political blow for BJP in the state. Soon after his resignation, reports of some other state BJP leaders leaving the party have also surfaced, which has further increased the BJP’s concern.
Experts believe that Annamalai’s new party can become a new center for non-Dravidian politics of Tamil Nadu. However, it also remains to be seen how strongly he is able to retain his supporting vote bank after separating from BJP. Because BJP is a cadre base party and in earlier instances, formation of separate parties by leaders like Kalyan Singh in Uttar Pradesh, Uma Bharti in Madhya Pradesh, Babulal Marandi in Jharkhand did not bear much fruit.
