
A major accident was averted at Mumbai airport on Tuesday (July 7) night. Here two planes of Air India and Air India Express came face to face on the same runway. However, after receiving instructions from the Air Traffic Controller (ATC), the Air India aircraft stopped the take-off process.
According to the information, this incident happened around 10 pm. Sources said that the Air India Express plane (AIX-1547) coming from Siliguri had not even left the runway after landing when the Delhi-bound Air India plane (AI-816) was preparing to take off from the same runway.
Both planes face to face on the runway
After this, both the planes came face to face on the same runway, which created a stir. However, after the instructions of ATC, the take-off process was stopped and the plane was brought back to the bay i.e. parking area. Due to which a possible accident was averted and all the passengers were saved safely.
Which aircraft were involved
According to sources, a large-sized Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft was being used in Air India flight number AI816 from Mumbai to Delhi. Whereas Air India Express flight number AIX-1547, which came from Siliguri to Mumbai, included a small-sized Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft.

Air India issued statement
Air India has issued a statement regarding this matter. Sharing a post on social media, Air India said, ‘On July 7, the crew of flight number AI816 from Mumbai to Delhi stopped the take-off run after receiving instructions from Air Traffic Control and brought the aircraft back to the bay. As per standard operating procedures, the aircraft will now be required to be inspected.’ Air India also said that alternative arrangements are being made to take the passengers to their destination as soon as possible.
