
The Central Government has approved the reappointment of Tushar Mehta as Solicitor General of India for three years. This appointment will be effective from July 1, 2026. This is the third time Mehta has been reappointed. Before this his tenure had been extended twice.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal to continue the post of Tushar Mehta as the second highest law officer of the country. This appointment will be effective from July 1, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
