Tulsi Puja Rules: Tulsi ji has been given a very sacred and revered place in Sanatan Dharma. According to Hindu tradition, planting a Tulsi plant in the courtyard or balcony of every house, offering water to it daily and worshiping it is considered very auspicious and brings prosperity. If seen, Tulsi has special importance not only from religious point of view but also in Ayurveda. Immense medicinal properties are found in this plant.
According to the scriptures, touching Tulsi ji or offering water without taking bath is prohibited on all days of the week. Even after bathing Tulsiji on Sunday, water should not be offered nor should Tulsi group be broken.
Sunday is the day of fasting of Goddess Tulsi.
According to religious beliefs, Tulsi Devi is a great devotee and beloved wife (Lakshmi Swaroopini) of Lord Vishnu. On Sunday, Tulsi Devi observes a strict waterless fast for Lord Vishnu. It is believed that offering water to Tulsi ji on this day breaks his fast. Due to this the Goddess gets angry and negative energy increases in the house.

On this day, Goddess Tulsi remains engrossed in the meditation of Lord Vishnu, hence it is said in the scriptures that water should not be offered to Tulsiji on Sunday and its leaves should not be plucked. Do not offer water even on Ekadashi day
Like Sunday, on every Ekadashi also, water should not be offered to Tulsi Ji and plucking its leaves is prohibited because on the day of Ekadashi, Goddess Tulsi observes Nirjala Ekadashi fast for Lord Hari (Vishnu). It is believed that plucking Tulsi leaves on Sunday or Ekadashi brings poverty and financial loss in the house. It is also said that this does not bring blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and may cause discord in the family.

If basil leaves are needed for religious puja or prasad on Sunday, then they should be plucked and kept on Saturday itself. The basil leaves do not lose their purity even after drying, hence the first plucked leaves can be used on Sunday. Apart from this, even if water is not offered on Sunday, lighting a ghee lamp near Tulsiji in the evening gives very auspicious results.
