US President Donald Trump is once again claiming that he is very close to a deal with Iran. This is not the first time that Trump has made such statements. Trump has made such claims about 39 times. According to CNN, since the start of the war, Trump has claimed 39 times that a deal with Iran is close and the same number of times Iran has rejected his claims.
Iran said on Thursday that like Trump’s previous deal-imminent announcements, all his words should be ignored. This time, after Trump’s claim that the deal was close, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghai said that the news of the agreement is speculation and nothing has been decided yet.
deal not being made
On February 28, America and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran. In response, Iran attacked Israel and America’s allies in the Gulf region and closed the Strait of Hormuz. Which is an important sea route for the transport of oil and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) around the world. Despite a ceasefire agreed upon in April, there have been intermittent attacks between the US and Iran. Which also includes two rounds of retaliatory action this week. Trump has also repeatedly talked about the possibility of an agreement with Iran, while Iran is also not ready to back down from its conditions.
Why is the deal not happening?
Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have tried to present the possible agreement as a success for Israel and America. Trump says that Iran will not have nuclear weapons. Whereas Iran has already been saying that its nuclear program is for civil use. Whereas America and Israel are insisting on stopping its entire nuclear program. Iran has clearly refused this and is not ready to give up its control over Hormuz also. Because of which Trump’s claims are failing again and again.
