A big survey has come out about the image of US President Donald Trump across the world. According to the Pew Research Center’s 2026 Global Attitudes Survey report, trust in Trump has continuously weakened in 36 countries. In the survey, 82% people of Pakistan, 84% of France, 84% of Germany and 89% of Sweden said that they do not trust Trump’s global leadership. Only 23% people expressed confidence in Trump, while 76% clearly said that they do not trust Trump. The report also recorded negative opinions regarding America’s global credibility, foreign policy, wars and business decisions. The survey has been prepared on the basis of conversations with 42,151 people from 36 countries between February and May 2026.
Trust in Trump is at its lowest in the world
According to the Pew Research Center’s Spring 2026 Global Attitudes Survey, an average of only 23% people in 36 countries expressed confidence in Donald Trump to make the right decisions in world affairs. In contrast, 76% people said that they do not have confidence in Trump’s leadership ability. In the survey, Philippines, Israel, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana were the countries where Trump got relatively better support. At the same time, Trump’s popularity remained very low in countries like Türkiye, West Bank, Netherlands, France, Germany and Sweden. Even in India, only 39% people expressed trust in Trump while 36% clearly said that they had no trust.

America’s global image also weakened
According to the survey, only 37% people in 36 countries have a positive opinion about America while 57% people have a negative opinion. America got the highest positive rating in Israel at 81%. On the other hand, about 80% of people in Türkiye and West Bank-East Jerusalem viewed America negatively. In the last one year, America’s popularity has declined by double digits in countries like Indonesia, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea and Türkiye. America’s image in many countries has reached its lowest level in the last two decades.
America’s reliable partners are decreasing
During Joe Biden’s tenure in 2022, America was considered a reliable partner in many countries, but by 2026 the picture has changed significantly. In Canada, 83% people considered America a reliable partner in 2022, which has now reduced to 35%. Similar big declines were also recorded in Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Italy and France. According to the survey, only 47% people in 36 countries consider America a reliable partner while 50% people do not consider it reliable.
Does America really want peace?
Only 35% of the world’s people believe that America makes a significant contribution to global peace and stability. In contrast, 63% people say that America makes little or no contribution to peace and stability in the world. In countries like the Philippines, Kenya and Israel, America’s role was considered positive, but in many countries of Europe and Latin America this perception has declined sharply. Compared to 2023, this confidence has fallen by more than 30 percentage points in Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, Canada and Australia.
Accused of ignoring the interests of other countries
Only 32% people in the survey believed that America takes into account the interests of other countries while making foreign policy. In contrast, 66% people said that America does not give importance to the concerns of other countries. Germany is a big example of this. In 2023, 60% people there believed that America takes care of the interests of other countries, but now this figure has fallen to only 23%. The same perception was seen in France, Sweden and many NATO countries.
Decrease in trust even in matters of personal freedom
America has long been considered a supporter of democracy and individual freedom, but this image has also been damaged in the new survey. Only 39% of people in 36 countries believed that the US government respects the personal freedom of its citizens. Whereas 56% people gave the opposite answer. Compared to 2021, America’s democratic image has weakened in many countries including Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Canada, France, South Korea and Australia.
Trump receives maximum criticism on Gaza, Iran and tariffs
In the survey, people’s opinion was taken on eight major issues of Trump’s foreign policy. 74% people rejected Trump’s policy regarding Iran. 76% people expressed disagreement on the Gaza conflict. 72% people opposed Trump’s decisions on Russia-Ukraine war and 77% on tariff policy. Humanitarian aid was the only issue where Trump got relatively better support, but even there 56% people remained dissatisfied. The US tariff policy was viewed negatively in many major trading partner countries including India.
What does India’s point of view say?
India was among the few countries where Trump received some support, but this support was also limited. In the survey, 39% Indians expressed trust in Trump while 36% people said that they had no trust. Only 18% people in India supported Trump’s decisions on tariff policy. This indicates that India too is seeing mixed reactions to America’s policies.
