Trump did not like the draft of Iran deal, made these amendments regarding nuclear program

May 31, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The agreement being negotiated to end the war between America and Iran has now reached the final stage. Although it has not been signed yet. The reason for this is that US President Donald Trump has asked to make some changes in the draft prepared. According to the Axios report, Trump wants to compromise and hopes that the deal will be finalized soon. But he wants that some such issues, which are very important for him, should be written more clearly in the agreement. Especially regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the enriched uranium it possesses.

The secret meeting lasted for 2 hours

On Friday, a meeting on this issue was held for about two hours in the Situation Room of the White House. Before the meeting, Trump had said that he was going to take a final decision on the deal. But no final announcement was made after the meeting. The White House said that Trump will accept only that agreement which is in America’s interest and will ensure that Iran can never make nuclear weapons.

According to sources, in the current draft Iran has promised that it will not make nuclear weapons. But apart from this, there are not many clear conditions regarding the nuclear programme. A time limit of 60 days has been fixed in the agreement. During this, there will be discussions on issues like Iran’s nuclear program and relief in sanctions from America.

Terms of uranium reserves and enrichment will be decided

First of all, there is to be a discussion on what will happen to the stock of enriched uranium available with Iran and how uranium enrichment will be limited in future. Trump wants it to be clearly written in the agreement as to when and how America will receive this nuclear material and what will be the process for its disposal. Trump has also asked for some changes in the part related to reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This sea route is considered very important for the world’s oil trade. According to American officials, after Trump’s demands, talks have now started again between the two sides. It may take about three days for Iran to respond to the new proposal.

Iran said- the deal is not final yet

On the other hand, Iran’s government media has also said that the agreement is close, but not completely finalized yet. Some reports claimed that under the deal, Iran could get back billions of dollars stashed abroad. However, the White House has rejected this claim.

American officials say that the possibility of an agreement is very high. But Trump wants the final document to include all his key conditions. Therefore, the deal may be finalized in the next few days, a week or more.
