Tripura Sundari Temple: As soon as death approaches, turtles climb the stairs and reach the sanctum sanctorum of the Mother Goddess, sacrifice their lives!

Tripura Sundari Temple: There are many ancient and mysterious temples in India. The temple of Mata Tripura Sundari is included in these temples. Mata Tripura Sundari is considered to be the form of Goddess Parvati. This temple of Mata is situated in Udaipur city in Gomti district of Tripra. This is considered a famous Shaktipeeth. Local people also call it ‘Matabadi’. There is a religious belief that the toe of the right foot of Mata Sati had fallen at this place. This temple of Mata has been given a special place among the 51 Shaktipeeths.

This temple is 524 years old. This temple was built in 1501. The temple was built by Maharaja Dhan Manikya. There is Kalyansagar lake behind the temple. Which adds to the beauty of this temple. The architecture of the temple is based on a Ratna style of Bengal. The temple is built on a small mound like Kathua Peeth, hence it is also called Kurma Peeth. Rare turtles are found here in Kalyansagar Lake, which are the center of faith and mystery in this temple.

According to local beliefs…

According to local beliefs, when a turtle’s death comes near, he himself climbs the stairs and reaches the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and after taking the blessings of the Mother Goddess, he sacrifices his life. Fishing and taking out turtles is strictly prohibited in this Kalyansagar lake spread over 2.75 acres. Here devotees feed pieces of bread, biscuits and puffed rice to the turtles.

History of the temple

A huge fair is organized in this temple during Diwali, in which lakhs of devotees reach. According to history, Maharaja Dhan Manikya was ordered by Goddess Tripura Sundari to establish the temple. Only after this, the black colored statue of the goddess was brought from Chittagong (presently Bangladesh) and installed here.
