Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar was found dead in his office at the police headquarters in Agartala on Monday. Initial reports suggest that the senior IPS officer has allegedly committed suicide. However, the exact cause of his death has not been officially confirmed yet. On Monday, his body was taken to GB Hospital in Agartala. The sudden and tragic death of the state’s top police officer has created a stir in the administrative and law and order circles of Tripura.
A high-level investigation into the matter was initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the senior IPS officer. Anurag Dhankar, a 1994 batch IPS officer of Tripura cadre, took over as the Director General of Police (chief of the police force) of Tripura in May 2025 after appointment by the state government.
