
A massive earthquake occurred on Friday off the Pacific coast of southern Mexico, bordering Guatemala, which was felt from Mexico City to El Salvador. Authorities have not yet reported any major damage or loss of life or property in any country, but a tsunami alert has been issued.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the intensity of the earthquake was 7.3. Its epicenter was 48 kilometers south-west of Aquiles Cerdán near the Chiapas coast and at a depth of 15 kilometers from land. Before this, a small earthquake had also occurred a short distance away in the sea.
The tremors of this earthquake shook the buildings of Guatemala City and were also felt in the neighboring country El Salvador. According to Reuters, the US Tsunami Warning System has said that there is a possibility of dangerous tsunami waves on the coasts within a radius of 300 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake in the Mexico area.
