Voting for two Rajya Sabha seats of Jharkhand will be held on June 18. Bharatiya Janata Party will also field its candidate for one seat in this election. BJP’s Jharkhand unit announced this on Monday. Party’s state president Aditya Sahu said that the decision to field a candidate for a Rajya Sabha seat was taken in the meeting of BJP’s state election committee. On May 22, the Election Commission had announced elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats from 10 states. This also includes two seats of Jharkhand, voting on which is to be held on June 18.
A political uproar has arisen before the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on two seats. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has expressed apprehension of horse trading (buying and selling of MPs and MLAs) in this election and for this it has written a letter to the Election Commission.
BJP does not have numerical strength – JMM
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that BJP has only 21 MLAs in the assembly. Despite this, opposition leader Babulal Marandi and state president Aditya Sahu have announced that the party will field a candidate in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Bhattacharya said the ruling alliance currently has the support of 56 out of 81 MLAs and this is enough for the victory of the two Rajya Sabha candidates. He alleged that efforts could be made to influence the MLAs in the elections.

JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya further said that BJP does not have the required number of MLAs to win on its own, hence there is a possibility that there could be horse-trading of MLAs to garner votes in its favour.
Let us tell you that out of these two seats in Jharkhand, one seat became vacant after the death of senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Shibu Soren, while the other seat is currently occupied by BJP leader Deepak Prakash. Deepak’s six-year tenure is ending on June 21.
What is the mathematics of Jharkhand Assembly?
At present, in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, the BJP-led NDA has 24 members and the India Alliance has 56 members. Party’s state general secretary Amar Kumar Bauri has claimed that out of 81 votes, we need to get 28 votes to win and we will definitely achieve it.
