On the third day of the monsoon session of Parliament, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has been suspended for the remaining duration of the session. Kalyan Banerjee was accused of making indecent remarks against Mamata’s rebels and women MPs of the National Citizens Party of India (NCPI). On the basis of the complaint given by the women MPs, the Lok Sabha Speaker has suspended them for the remaining session. The Skipper ordered him to leave the Parliament premises immediately.
Mamta’s rebel women MPs had given a complaint to the Speaker. After which, Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal proposed for action against Kalyan Banerjee. After which the Speaker suspended Kalyan Banerjee for the remaining period of the session.
Kalyan Banerjee’s spat with NCPI MPs
In fact, after the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned due to the uproar on Wednesday, there was a heated exchange in the House between Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee and his former party colleague and some MPs of the National Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
NCPI leaders Mithali Bagh, Shatabdi Rai and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were involved in this altercation. Kalyan Banerjee remains with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. However, it was not clear what caused the dispute between the two parties. Some opposition MPs intervened and tried to pacify both the parties. Kalyan Banerjee walked out of the House when asked about the incident by some opposition MPs.
20 MPs have rebelled against TMC
After the defeat of Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, 20 MPs of the party rebelled against the leadership and joined NCPI. He is sitting separately from Trinamool Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha. NCPI MPs have also expressed their support towards the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
When the House started at 11 in the morning, Kalyan Banerjee came towards the seats of women MPs of NCPI and started saying that you all have been sold. You sold yourself. We picked you up from your way and brought you here. During this period, Kalyan also took the name of Bhupendra Yadav.
After receiving NCPI’s complaint, the Speaker discussed it, after which a proposal was brought by the government to suspend Kalyan Banerjee for the remaining days of the monsoon session. After which the House approved that proposal by voice vote. After this, Kalyan Banerjee was suspended for the remaining session and asked to leave the House.
Complaint was also given on June 10
On June 10, a written complaint was lodged by Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar against MP Kalyan Banerjee. In the complaint, Ghosh had made many allegations against Kalyan Banerjee including not taking care of the dignity of Parliament and the woman MP. On the basis of these allegations, the Lok Sabha Speaker was requested to consider disciplinary action against Kalyan Banerjee and expulsion from the House. Today again when the Speaker’s Office received a complaint about his indecency from TMC’s women MPs, action was taken against him.
Kakoli Ghosh had made these allegations
- Kalyan Banerjee accused of continuously using abusive and disrespectful language.
- Allegations of making anti-women and derogatory comments towards women MPs, especially the complainant.
- Allegation of behaving contrary to parliamentary dignity during the proceedings of the Lok Sabha.
- Accused of making personal comments and attacks instead of political debate.
- Accused of keeping women MPs under fear and pressure due to his behaviour.
- This is not a one-time incident, but is said to be a repeated conduct.
- Allegations of his behavior affecting the dignity, decency and parliamentary decorum of the Lok Sabha.
- Accused of creating such an environment that women hesitate to participate openly in parliamentary proceedings.
- Specifically accused of violating the etiquette and conduct required under Lok Sabha Rules 349 and 352
- Allegation of using derogatory and derogatory language towards co-MPs.
- It is alleged that his statements are only aimed at insulting and intimidating other members rather than contributing to constructive debate.
- Accused of creating an environment contrary to the principles of mutual respect and equal participation in Parliament.
