June 1, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Taking major action, Trinamool Congress (TMC) expelled two of its MLAs from primary membership with immediate effect. The names of these MLAs are Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee. TMC has taken this action, accusing both the leaders of being involved in anti-party activities and working against the interests of the organization.

According to the information, a letter has been sent to Speaker Rathendra Bose in this regard. After this, Ritabrata and Sandipan will remain members of the Assembly, but both the leaders will no longer be known as Trinamool MLAs. The party has expelled both of them on charges of anti-party activities.

MLA did not attend the meeting

In separate expulsion notices issued on June 1, Trinamool Congress said that both the MLAs were continuously absent from the meetings called by the authorized leadership of the party. According to the party, both the leaders had reached the Assembly after winning the elections on TMC ticket, but later they did not follow organizational discipline.

allegations against MLAs

The notice said that the competent authority of the party has also found that both the MLAs have participated in such activities and made statements which are harmful to TMC. Considering this as serious indiscipline, action has been taken against him. The notice reads, ‘After due consideration of the matter, the competent authority of TMC has decided to expel you from the (primary) membership of the party with immediate effect’.

Decision taken after review

Trinamool Congress clarified that after expulsion, Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee will not be able to use any post, responsibility, privilege or authority related to the party. This decision will be considered effective from the date of issue of notice. Although the party has accused both the MLAs of anti-party activities, the notice does not mention those activities or statements. TMC says that this decision has been taken only after reviewing the entire matter by the competent authority. After this big decision of the party, at present no official reaction has come from Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee.
