Addressing the ‘Global Kashmiri Pandit Conclave’ in Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the time has come for Kashmiri Pandits to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the future of the changing Jammu and Kashmir. Eminent people of Kashmiri Pandit community from India and abroad participated in the Global Kashmiri Pandit Conclave.
Manoj Sinha Said that this moment of change has come, people who were once uprooted from their homeland are returning and this homecoming is the true victory.
He appealed to the eminent members of the Kashmiri Pandit community living abroad to build industries, academic and cultural institutions in J&K, which will become an immortal story of their heritage and provide opportunities to the coming generations.
Appeal to pundits to connect with their roots
He described the community’s journey from displacement to global success as a historic story of courage, resilience and cultural strength.
The LG said that Kashmiri Pandits suffered the deep pain of becoming homeless overnight in the 1990s, but instead of despair, they chose the path of hard work, reconstruction and social service. He urged the community to actively participate in building institutions in Jammu and Kashmir and its development, as the new Jammu and Kashmir is incomplete without their participation.
Government started new initiative
On this occasion, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani stressed on the honorable return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits. Wani said that the government will reactivate the Apex Committee formed in 2009. This committee was formed to monitor the plans for the return and rehabilitation of Pandits.
He clearly said that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits. The valley will be complete only when Pandits and Muslims live together again.
He appealed to both the communities to choose the path of dialogue instead of blaming each other. He stressed that previous plans were not completely successful, so now work will be done with representatives of Pandits to prepare a ‘roadmap’. Making an emotional appeal, Wani said that the history, blood and future of both the communities are the same. The government will soon take concrete steps in this direction.
