Yes, Apra told that the craze for ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu’ was such that as soon as I saw her in a program, the crowd had increased so much that there was no place to even get out. I was surrounded by crowds from all sides.
Apara Mehta narrated the story
Apara Mehta told, “At that time, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ was at its peak. One of my Gujarati plays was performed at Kala Mandir in Kolkata, where five shows were organized and all were housefull. As soon as I reached there, around 8,000 people threw their dandiya sticks in the air on seeing me. After this, people surrounded me and dragged me to the stage.”
She further said, “People were pushing me and pulling me. I was shaking hands with everyone, when someone tried to pull my diamond ring. During this, someone’s burning cigarette touched me and I got burnt. The situation got so bad that the entire stage started shaking. The matter had become quite dangerous.”
Apara told that later the organizers brought him down from the stage and took him out through the security cordon. He said, “At that time everyone wanted to touch me. I told them, ‘Okay, touch me… but what will you get from it?'”
Apara played the role of Savita Virani
Let us tell you that Apara Mehta played the character of Savita Virani in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, who was Mihir’s mother and Tulsi’s mother-in-law. This role made him a household name. This show ran for about eight years and is counted among the most popular serials of Indian television. Apart from Kyunki, Apara has worked in many serials like ‘Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka’, ‘Saat Phere’, ‘Hamari Devrani’, ‘Jamai Raja’, ‘Anupama’ and ‘Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Se’.
