America’s intelligence agencies have warned the Donald Trump government. They say that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can take such steps, which can harm the peace agreement between America and Iran. According to current and former US officials, Netanyahu is under intense political pressure at home and wants to continue the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The American intelligence report says that Israel seems to be in favor of continuing the military operation in Lebanon instead of stopping it. Whereas an important condition of the 14-point agreement reached this week between America and Iran is to end the fighting in Lebanon. Therefore, differences between Washington and Tel Aviv are increasing.
Israeli attacks are not stopping in Lebanon
On Friday, Israel carried out several air strikes in southern Lebanon. This action was taken in response to a drone attack by Hezbollah, in which four Israeli soldiers were killed. After this, tension increased in the region and the US-Iran talks to be held in Switzerland were postponed. US Vice President JD Vance, who was scheduled to attend the talks, also canceled his visit.
According to the report, Netanyahu faces an election challenge this year. American agencies believe that if they withdraw troops from Lebanon or reduce action against Hezbollah, it will be considered their defeat in Israel. For this reason, he is continuously adopting a strict stance.
Israel is not happy with Trump’s deal
The report also says that Israel is not completely happy with the peace agreement of the Trump administration. Israel believes that this agreement can reduce pressure on Iran and limit its actions against Hezbollah. However, the Trump administration says that the agreement gives Israel the right to surrender and if Hezbollah attacks, Israel can retaliate.
Even in Israel, the action against Hezbollah is getting widespread support. According to a survey, 70% of Israeli Jews are in favor of intensifying the war against Hezbollah. Thousands of people of northern Israel have left their homes in the ongoing conflict since October 2023 and they want the government to completely eliminate the power of Hezbollah.
