‘Thousands of duplicate voters in Mainpuri, name of same voter registered 6 times’, SP demands action from Election Commission

May 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

During the SIR process in Uttar Pradesh, a large number of names were deleted and many names were also added, that is why the opposition has been continuously raising questions regarding the voter list. Allegations of irregularities in the voter list are being made in Mainpuri. The main opposition party Samajwadi Party (SP) has raised questions on the voter list and demanded removal of duplicate voters. The party alleges that the names of the same voter have been registered 6-6 times.

Following the instructions of SP chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the party became active in Mainpuri and submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Election Commission and raised the demand for fair elections. Party leaders allege that names of many voters with the same name, address, age and booth have been registered in all the four assemblies of Mainpuri district.

SP demanded immediate action

The party has claimed that there are thousands of duplicate voters in many assembly seats of Mainpuri. The SP delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer of the district and demanded immediate action.

It was claimed by the party that the names of the same voters have been registered 6-6 times in Bhogaon Assembly. Samajwadi Party has claimed to have names of 4379 duplicate voters in Bhogaon seat and more than 5776 in Karhal assembly constituency. Same is the situation in Mainpuri and Kishni areas where there are 4375 and 4692 duplicate voters.

Name of one voter registered in 10 places

In Bhinga assembly seat of Shravasti district, it was alleged that the name of a voter was registered 10 times. In Jhansi Assembly too, names of many deceased voters have been claimed to be in the voter list.

SP said in its complaint that even after the completion of the SIR process in the state, the voter list has not been purified and corrected. The party has also raised questions on the voter list of more than 1.77 lakh polling booths in Uttar Pradesh.
