Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Diamond Harbor MP Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the rebel party leaders and central agencies. Talking to journalists on Saturday (July 18), he said that those who run away as soon as the ED summons come, actually do not want to fight.
He said, ‘Everyone has his own opinion, his own right. One can go wherever he wants, but as soon as the ED summons comes and you run away, it is clear that you do not want to fight. You are scared and have bowed down because of fear. If you have nothing to hide, everything is in your favor, then go to ED. I was also called 10 times, I did not run away.
‘I don’t know how many FIRs there are against me’
Referring to the continuous summons of agencies, Abhishek Banerjee said that he has been called many times by CID, STF and State Police. He said, ‘I myself do not know how many FIRs are there against me. 20, 25, 30 FIRs are registered. I have asked for the list in the High Court, have asked the DGP to tell me how many FIRs there are.
‘If you bow down before the public, not before Delhi’
The MP further said that he does not want the protection of any agency. He said, ‘If you have accepted defeat and think that nothing will happen by going to ED, CBI, police, then it is your choice’. He said that ED’s security is not important for us, public safety is important for us. He said that if we bow down, we will bow down in front of the public. If we have to bow down in democracy then we have to bow before the people. We will not bow down before Delhi.
‘Why didn’t you leave before the 4th?’
On the allegations being leveled against him by the leaders leaving the party in which he is blamed for defection, Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘This is all a script, isn’t it? Only if you say this you will be safe from police and agencies. If you do not abuse Abhishek Banerjee four times, the police will not let you go. You will be safe only if you abuse. He said that those who were leaving the party after the 4th, why did they not leave before the 4th? I was in the party earlier also.
‘Come back, I will resign in an hour’
He said that the party had won 29 seats in 2024. So if the responsibility of defeat is of Abhishek Banerjee, then the responsibility of victory in 2024 also lies with Abhishek Banerjee. Will you accept this? He said that you come back to Mamata Banerjee and I will tender my resignation within 24 hours. He said let’s reduce it further, I will resign in 1 hour, you come back. He told the rebel leaders that you are saying that if Abhishek Banerjee leaves then you all will come back? You come, reach by 3 o’clock and I will leave by 4 o’clock.
‘The responsibility for the defeat is mine and the credit for the victory in 2024 is also mine’
Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘If those who have objection say that only Abhishek Banerjee is responsible for this performance or defeat of the party, then the credit for winning 29 seats of Trinamool Congress in 2024 also goes to me. If the defeat is my fault, then the credit for the victory is also mine. I request those who have a problem with me to understand that people are not stupid. Today is 18th, you come on 19th, come on 20th, come on 21st, come whenever you want, come today itself. You all go back and I will submit my resignation within an hour.
