Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra has made a big claim. He claimed that after years, the people of Delhi welcomed the first monsoon rain in the last three days. This initial rain provided relief from the heat and common problems like heavy water logging did not occur. The Delhi BJP President said that leaving behind the bad experiences of the last decade, people enjoyed this first monsoon rain to the fullest.
Despite it raining for hours, there were no reports of any disruption in normal life or daily activities due to water-logging anywhere in the city. Malhotra said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department (PWD) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) together took up the desilting work. As a result, Delhi’s drainage system was ready to handle the heavy rains, allowing people to enjoy the first monsoon rains in years.
Earlier governments used to make excuses
Delhi BJP President said that earlier Delhi used to be flooded only during the first two big rains of monsoon. Governments often made excuses, saying that this was just the beginning of the season and the situation would improve. But monsoon remained a cause of trouble for the people of Delhi. Harsh Malhotra said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, drains and sewers were cleaned in the last one and a half month.
Delhi government’s efforts were successful
Apart from this, 169 water-logged areas and 445 sensitive places were identified. In order to prepare the city for the first rains, 167 pump houses and 754 mobile pumps were installed before June 28. We can say that the Delhi government was successful in this big initial effort.
Problems found in the areas of AAP MLAs and councilors
In the last three days, more than 100 mm of rain fell on Thursday morning alone. Nevertheless, the government was successful in preventing water-logging on the Ring Road, main roads and flyover loops, allowing normal life to continue without any disruption. There were problems in some areas of Old Delhi and East Delhi, but the negligence of local AAP MLAs and councilors was responsible for this. The government will pay special attention to this matter in future.
