After extracting milk from a plastic bag, you throw it away, but have you ever thought how much harm this bag causes to the environment? Mother Dairy thought about this and recently the company has announced that now milk will come in naturally degradable milk pouches, the purpose behind bringing this pouch is to save the environment by reducing plastic waste. World Environment Day 2026 is on 5th June and from this day people in Delhi-NCR will start getting milk in this special pouch, starting with the company’s cow milk variant.
What is the technology behind this pouch?
Degradable packaging technology has been used in the new pouch. Due to this technology, this special pouch is first converted into bioavailable wax, after which the microorganisms present in the soil convert it into natural elements. Regarding this special packaging, the company says that this pouch automatically gets destroyed in the soil in many years, whereas common plastic takes centuries.
Degradable packaging technology is a set of materials science and engineering methods used to create packaging that naturally degrades when exposed to microorganisms.
Jayateertha Chari, Managing Director of Mother Dairy, said, we did more than four years of research to prepare this naturally degradable milk bag and its special thing is that after mixing in the soil, it does not leave any trace of plastic in the soil.
Will the price of milk increase with this special packet?
You know what is the technology behind the packet and how does this packet get mixed in the soil. Now the question in the minds of many people is whether this step of Mother Dairy will increase the prices of milk? In response to this question, the company said that the arrival of milk in this special packet will not affect the prices, milk will be available at the old price.
