Since ancient times, many types of sherbet have been made in Indian houses and every house has its own traditional recipe, but today we will talk about such sherbet which became popular among the people from the streets of Kochi, Kerala. This is a spicy tangy sherbet which gives a vibrant taste. Simply put, it is a mocktail.

The sherbet we are talking about is amazing in taste. Apart from this, it will also improve your digestion. Will protect from heat stroke and will provide relief in humid heat. So let us know what is this sherbet and how to make it.

Interesting story of Kulukki Sharbat

The name of the Kerala sherbet we are talking about is ‘Kulukki’. This is a very popular street drink here which is also known as ‘Shaken Lemonade’. Actually, ‘kulukki’ in Malayalam means to shake. This sherbet originally came from the city of Kozhikode in northern Kerala, but its recipe became popular from the streets of Kochi, the capital of Kerala.

Kochi’s ‘cool bars’ i.e. juice shops and roadside vendors started making it. In this way it became popular among the people. Apart from this, ‘Shajikka’ or Shaji’s Kulfi Sharbat shop located at Kochi High Court Junction is very popular for ‘Kulukki Sharbat’. So let’s see the recipe now.

What are the ingredients required?

To make this drink or sherbet, you need 1 glass of coconut water, 1 big lemon, 1 green chilli, 1 teaspoon soaked sabja seeds, 1.5 teaspoon sugar powder, 5-6 fresh mint leaves, ice cubes as per requirement, and 1 pinch of black salt. Now see the recipe.

Kulukki Sharbat Recipe

  • First of all you have to pour coconut water in a shaker or air tight jar.
  • Add powdered sugar, mint leaves (break into pieces), lemon juice and ice into coconut water.
  • All things have to be shaken well for at least 15 seconds so that a nice fizz is created in it.
  • Now take the serving glass. Add ice cubes, vegetable seeds, green chillies (cut from the middle), lemon slices to it.
  • After putting all the things in the glass, add shaken coconut water in it. Add black salt and mix lightly with a spoon.
