There is an American prisoner in Delhi’s Tihar Jail whose diet has become a headache for the jail administration. This American citizen is on hunger strike for 50 days because of the food available here. This American man named Van Dyke is unable to tolerate the food he gets in Indian jail. For this he has also filed an application in the court. In this case, the jail superintendent asked for a week’s time to file the reply, after which the court has fixed the next hearing of the case on July 21.

In fact, Van’s lawyers told that Van had not eaten the spicy food available in jail for 50 days. Van consumed only liquid substances, which included soy milk, Van further demanded the same. Van is not able to eat the normal food available in the jail. Whenever Van ate this food, he could not digest the spicy, deep-fried food and his health deteriorated.

Where was Van Dyke arrested?

American citizen Van Dyke was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13 along with 6 Ukrainian citizens. These people are accused of having entered India from Myanmar through Mizoram border. Then later they were caught at different domestic airports across the country.
This group is suspected of working as mercenaries. It is being investigated in connection with a larger terrorist conspiracy, which includes helping ethnic armed groups in India and Myanmar and providing them drone training.

Van had started an organization

VanDyke started a non-profit organization named ‘Sons of Liberty International’ (SOLI). This organization trained those fighting against ISIS in Iraq and has also helped Ukraine since 2022. He says that he is against dictatorial governments. NIA claims that these groups are linked to rebels in the North-East of India. They have been charged under the ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act’ (UAPA), which also includes conspiracy related to terrorism.
