
The government is alert about the slow pace of monsoon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed the ministries to take necessary steps in the cabinet meeting yesterday i.e. on Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, June received the least rainfall in 12 years. At the same time, there is a possibility of below average rainfall in July also. So far, 43 percent less rainfall than the average has been recorded. There is a possibility of its impact on crops also.
Monsoon has been affected due to El Nino. There is a possibility of less rain at some places and more rain at other places. Prime Minister Modi discussed about monsoon in the cabinet meeting yesterday. Ten ministries and departments have been asked to remain alert. Instructions for preparation have been given to the Ministries of Agriculture, Food, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Energy, Water Power, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Home and Finance.
12 states of the country affected by weak monsoon
These ministries have already been asked to make all preparations. Agriculture Minister has said that there are challenges due to weak monsoon in 315 districts.
Irrigation availability in 111 districts is less than 25 percent. There are 12 states in the districts affected by monsoon. These include Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
The water level of the reservoirs is being monitored
The government is considering increasing the budget of VB Ji Ram Ji (Rural Employment Mission). The current budget is Rs 95 thousand crore and under this law, which came into effect from July 1, the wage rate is Rs 300 to Rs 409, in some panchayats in Sikkim there is a special rate of Rs 450. In case of weak monsoon, a plan has been made to provide more employment in rural areas. The water level of the reservoirs is being monitored as it may affect power generation. There are also preparations to produce electricity from alternative sources.
