There will be a place for offering Namaz near Bhojshala… MP government gave assurance to Muslims

July 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition of the Muslim side in which it has been alleged that the alternative land identified by the Madhya Pradesh government for offering Namaz is far away from the disputed Bhojshala complex located in Dhar. Hearing in this matter will be held on Friday.

Actually, the hearing in the Dhar Bhojshal case was held in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (22 July). During this, the Madhya Pradesh government assured the court that an alternative place would be provided near the Bhojshala for the Muslim community to offer Namaz. The Muslim side has expressed objection to the land provided by the government for prayers.

‘Space will be given to offer namaz on Friday’

According to the order of the Supreme Court, Muslims will be given a place near Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Masjid Complex to offer Namaz on Friday. Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, appearing for the government, said that he will personally look into the matter and make necessary reforms.

What did the Muslim side say?

In fact, Muslim side’s lawyer Huzaifa Ahmadi expressed his objection on the land provided for Namaz. The lawyer said that the alternative land provided for Friday prayers is far away from the Bhojshala. He said that according to the court order, the land should have been near Bhojshala, but the land has been made available about 2 kilometers away. Due to which one Friday prayer has already been missed.

‘Officials are looking for another place nearby’

The Solicitor General (SG) said that this place is 900 meters away, but the SG also said that the officials are looking for another place nearby. He said that he will personally look into the matter and make necessary improvements. He directed Chief Justice Surya Kant to list the case for hearing on Friday. During the hearing, Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that the court’s order should be followed in letter and spirit.

Supreme Court had given instructions

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the Madhya Pradesh government to provide an alternative place near Bhojshala for Muslims to offer namaz. During the hearing held on July 14, the Supreme Court had asked to provide an alternative place on the demand of the Muslim side to continue Friday prayers.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant had asked Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta whether any place could be provided near the Bhojshala complex to offer Namaz. CJI had asked the Muslim side whether we can order arrangements for Namaz in the surrounding areas? Such interim arrangements can be made until the final decision is taken in this matter. The Supreme Court will now hear the Bhojshala case on Friday.
