Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday rejected Ukrainian President Zelensky’s proposal for a meeting. Addressing the International Economic Forum held in his hometown of St. Petersburg, Putin described Zelensky’s open letter proposing the meeting as absurd.
Referring to Zelensky’s open letter, Putin said, “Is this a way to create conditions for personal meetings and negotiations, I think this is a way to create an environment that makes any personal meeting impossible?” The Russian President said that he does not see any point in this meeting.
There is no use of such a meeting

Ready for peace under Trump’s proposal: Putin
Russian President Putin has said that Moscow is ready to reach an agreement with Ukraine on the basis of US President Donald Trump’s peace proposal, provided Kiev is ready to make some compromises. He also claimed that the Russian army is maintaining its dominance on the battlefield.
The Russian President said that Moscow is strengthening its air defense to counter Ukrainian drone attacks. He stressed that the patriotism and will of the Russian people will ensure that they achieve their goals in Ukraine.
Direct communication between Ukraine and Russia
In a related development, Ukrainian President Zelensky supported a complete ceasefire for talks between the two sides, saying that peace is possible only through direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, the Kremlin confirmed that it had received the letter. The President of Ukraine wrote that Ukraine proposes to end this war through direct negotiations between us and you. I am proposing a meeting.
Mention of the summit meeting with Trump
In the press conference, Putin emphasized that Ukraine will have to make compromises. He specifically mentioned the summit meeting with US President Trump in Anchorage, Alaska in August last year. The Russian President said that, of course, we are ready and willing to reach an agreement with Ukraine through peaceful means – and it will be based on what we discussed in the meeting with President Trump in Anchorage.
Without going into details, he said, in that meeting some questions were put before Russia so that we could agree on some agreements. Russia agrees to the agreements that were discussed in Anchorage. It is necessary that Ukraine also accepts these agreements. Then this conflict will be resolved naturally and quickly.
