The rainy season was going on. Water was continuously raining heavily from the sky and water was visible everywhere on the roads. In such an environment, a video surfaced on social media which attracted people’s attention. In the video, a water tanker was seen watering the plants on the divider in the middle of the road. Seeing this scene at first glance, most people felt that this was another example of government negligence. People started sharing the video and within no time it went viral on the internet.
People’s reactions to the video also started coming rapidly. Many people raised the question that when the rains are so heavy then what is the need to water the plants separately. Some people called it a waste of both government money and water. At the same time, many users also said that people have to face water shortage in many parts of the city, hence watering plants from tankers during rains is a completely wrong decision.

As the video reached more people, the debate on it also increased. Thousands of people started giving their opinions on social media without complete information. Many people criticized the concerned department, while some people started demanding answers from the administration. After watching the video, the question in everyone’s mind was why there was a need to water the plants amidst so much rain.
Later the officials gave clarification on this entire matter, after which the picture became clear to a great extent. According to the information, this incident took place in Paud Road area of Pune city of Maharashtra. Saplings have been planted on the road divider at the place where the video went viral. It seemed as if the rain water would be reaching those plants easily, but the reality turned out to be completely different.
Why is water being given?
Giving information about the entire matter, Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation Omprakash Diwate said that the care of the plants seen in the viral video is not the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation but of the Pune Metro. He told that an elevated metro bridge is built just above that divider. Due to the bridge, most of the rain water flows directly towards the roadside and sufficient water does not reach the plants planted on the divider.
According to the officials, when seen from outside it seems that the plants would be completely drenched in the rain, but in reality, due to the shadow of the bridge, very little water reaches there. In such a situation, if the plants are not watered on time, they may dry up. This is the reason why water was being given to them through tanker. This was not negligence but an essential part of plant care.
