After the Iran deal, the discussion about reopening the Strait of Hormuz has intensified. According to America and Iran, this process will start after the signing of the agreement. Experts say that it may take at least 30 days to completely open the strait. Its main reason Hormuz There are mines laid in the maritime area. It is being told that during the war, Iran had laid a large number of underwater mines to stop American naval activities. Now it will not be easy for Iran to remove them.

The 34 kilometer wide Strait of Hormuz is considered the gateway to the Persian Gulf. Through this route, the Gulf countries supply oil and gas to the world. About 20 percent of the global oil and gas supply passes through this waterway.

How many landmines have been laid in Hormuz?

Axios Had made a report quoting American intelligence officials. It was said that there are more than 100 mines laid under Hormuz. One mine which is Maham (3) contains 340 kg of gunpowder. That means Iran has laid 34000 kg of gunpowder under water in Hormuz. That means one kilogram of gunpowder has been set at one meter. Iran has not officially said anything regarding this.

Iran has not said anything about how it will be removed after the agreement with America. However, it is believed that Iran can take help from countries like France in this work. Recently, France and Britain had sent their ships to remove gunpowder towards Cyprus.

French President Emmanuel Macron had issued a statement saying that after the agreement, France can play an important role in cleaning up Hormuz. Earlier the Pentagon had said that it may take 6 months to remove so many mines.

Focus on Hormuz in Iran agreement

The agreement between Iran and America focuses on Hormuz. According to JD Vance, America’s Vice President and head of the negotiating team, Iran has talked about opening Hormuz immediately after the deal was signed. Vance says that Iran will not take any money for movement through this route.

Iran is trying to collect environmental tax from this route. For this, Iran is preparing a proposal in collaboration with its neighboring country Oman.
