The preliminary investigation report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in the case of alleged theft and embezzlement during counting of offerings at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple has revealed many serious irregularities. The Uttar Pradesh government has informed the facts by sending a copy of this report to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on 25 June 2026.
SIT According to the investigation, in the CCTV footage available between April 27, 2026 and June 5, 2026, employees were seen several times inside the counting room hiding bundles of notes and loose change in their clothes, pockets, shoes and other places. About 70 such suspicious cases have been mentioned in the investigation report.
The investigation also revealed that this was not one or two incidents, but a systematic process repeated over several days. According to the report, prescribed security standards were not followed in the counting room. Searches were not conducted at the time of entry and exit, there was no effective control over the personal belongings of employees, cash from many handis was mixed and counted and serious deficiencies were also found in the recording and verification of valuables.
Involvement of six accused in Chari
SIT has prima facie revealed the involvement of six people. These include the names of Avinash Shukla, Anukul Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey and Ramshankar Mishra.
According to the report, even before the investigation, there was an indication of recovery of about Rs 78.94 lakh from some employees. Apart from this, additional recovery of about Rs 2.25 lakh from the counting room on June 4, 2026 has also been mentioned.
The SIT also found that more cash deposits and financial transactions were found in the bank accounts of the employees concerned than their declared income, which required detailed investigation.
Big revelation in SIT’s primary report
Questions have also been raised in the report on the monitoring system of the trust. According to the investigation, there was serious negligence in security arrangements, CCTV surveillance, compliance with SOP, search arrangements and supervision, which resulted in failure to prevent incidents like theft and embezzlement.
However, the report also said that many of the allegations on social media regarding disappearance of valuable items, such as silver bricks and other precious offerings, were not prima facie confirmed, but recommended further strengthening of the management and record system of valuable items. This report is currently a preliminary investigation report and the process of further detailed investigation and necessary legal action will continue in the matter.
