Roorkee Marriage Controversy: A unique and sensational marriage case has come to light from Roorkee area of Haridwar district of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. During the wedding ceremony at the Taj Palace Marriage Hall located in the Ganganahar police station area, the bride refused to marry due to the poor conduct of the groomsmen. The drunken wedding guests tried to misbehave and molest the women attending the wedding, due to which the angry bride took the historic decision of taking off her wedding dress for the sake of self-respect and returning the wedding procession back empty-handed.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the Taj Palace in Green Park Colony, Roorkee. The procession reached Roorkee with great pomp from Mehwad Kalan village of Piran Kaliyar police station area. The initial rituals of the wedding were going on and the bride was sitting ready in her wedding dress. It is alleged that many youths participating in the wedding procession were under the influence of alcohol. He started misbehaving and molesting the women of the bride’s side present in the wedding hall.
Marriage hall became battlefield, bride stopped marriage after half the rituals
As soon as the news of misbehavior with women was received, the anger of the bride’s side reached the seventh sky. Initially there was a heated argument between the two parties, which soon turned into kicking, punching and fighting. Amidst the chaos in the marriage hall, the bride showed courage and took a tough decision and flatly refused to get married amidst the drunken wedding procession.
Written agreement in the presence of police, agreement on reimbursement of expenses
As soon as information about the uproar was received, Ganganahar police immediately reached the spot and controlled the situation. After an hour-long panchayat in the presence of police and local people, both the parties agreed to cancel the marriage. Under the written agreement, it was decided that the groom’s side would pay the entire expenses for the food, drinks and arrangements of the wedding to the bride’s side and would return the dowry items. After completion of the agreement, when the groom’s side was going out with the luggage, some people from the bride’s side attacked again, in which one person from the groom’s side was injured.
Second groom called from Saharanpur, marriage took place in the same pavilion
After the drunken wedding procession returned empty handed, the bride’s side immediately took a big step. The bride’s side immediately called the second groom and his family from Bilaspur village in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh to the marriage hall. With the consent of both the families, the bride’s marriage with another groom was conducted with great pomp. Ganganahar Kotwali Police says that a mutual agreement was reached between both the parties and at present no written complaint has been received from any party.
