The rulers themselves became the attackers… Mamata Banerjee shocked by the attack on nephew Abhishek

May 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The attack on TMC MP and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal is being strongly condemned. From state to national level everyone is saying it is wrong. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Akhilesh Yadav have given their reaction on this. Now Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has given a strong reaction to this incident. Mamta has cornered the government and said that it should feel ashamed.

Immediately after the incident, Trinamool reacted to the issue. It was reported in one post that Abhishek had also stood by the family of the late Trinamool worker during the recent protests. Retweeting this post, Mamata Banerjee wrote, now the rulers have become the attackers. BJP should be ashamed. Trinamool said, the real face of BJP has been exposed.

The attack on Abhishek has once again proved how fast law and order is breaking down in West Bengal. Is this democracy? Is this good governance? He further said that the whole world is watching this incident.

Home Minister must answer: Derek O’Brien

Earlier, TMC leader Derek O’Brien attacked the BJP government of Bengal. He wrote on Twitter, “What is happening in Bengal right now? The Lok Sabha leader of the second largest opposition party, the All India Trinamool Congress, had gone to meet the family of a person killed by the BJP in the post-poll violence. Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by some BJP supporters in a mob. His life is in danger. Where is the police? Why was the security withdrawn on the day of counting of votes? The Home Minister should answer this.”

Akhilesh told politics of hatred

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav wrote on Twitter, “By carrying out a deadly attack on Abhishek Banerjee, a prominent leader of Trinamool Congress in Bengal, the anarchist BJP government of the state has proved that it is incapable of doing anything other than pursuing hate-filled, negative and violent politics. The non-deployment of police even in such a sensitive environment indicates a bigger conspiracy. This is highly condemnable!”

BJP denied TMC’s allegations

Regarding this incident, BJP claims that it has nothing to do with the incidents in Sonarpur. BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya said that the party is not involved in this incident. Considering the atrocities committed by Trinamool in South 24 Parganas in the last five years, if BJP had wanted, Trinamool leaders would not have been able to even come out of their homes. It is entirely the result of BJP exercising restraint that Trinamool leaders are able to move around so freely.
