June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

20 rebel MPs of Trinamool Congress met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday (June 14, 2026). During this, a letter was handed over to him regarding merger with National Citizens Party (NCPI). Along with this, the rebel MPs have said that they will support the NDA. This decision of the MPs has become a topic of discussion across the country. This is being considered a big change in West Bengal politics. Suddenly the stature of a party in the state increased which no one even knew about before. At the same time, a big change is visible in the current Lok Sabha equation of West Bengal.

The new equation of Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal reflects the changing political picture of the state. According to latest data
Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) has emerged as the largest parliamentary party in West Bengal with 20 Lok Sabha seats. This not only increased the stature of the party in the state but also gave it a new identity.

Number of other parties

According to the data, after this Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 12 Lok Sabha seats, while All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is reduced to 8 seats. At the same time, Congress (INC) has 1 seat in its account and 1 seat is currently declared vacant.

NCPI has 20 seats

NCPI has 20 seats out of total 42. Due to which this party now appears to be in a position to play an important role in the politics of West Bengal. The party has shown these figures on social media. This number is believed to give a new direction to the state’s voice in Parliament and its influence in national politics. NCPI says that the figures speak for themselves. Leadership, representation and public mandate decide the future of Bengal and India. This new parliamentary equation of West Bengal can impact both state and national politics in the times to come.

NCPI contested first election from Tripura

Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) was registered in West Bengal, but it contested its first elections from Tripura. NCPI started its election campaign from Tripura instead of Bengal. In the 2023 Tripura Assembly elections, the party had tried to register its presence in the tribal dominated areas. This party, which lost the Tripura Assembly elections by just 822 votes, has now become the center of Delhi politics. NCPI has emerged as a major player in the ongoing political crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
