When violence broke out in Delhi’s Connaught Place on Wednesday evening, an Assistant Police Commissioner of Delhi Police was injured. Police allege that during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest, miscreants threw stones and bottles at security personnel. ACP Vivek Bhagat was also among the policemen injured in this incident. Now his statement on this incident has come out. He said that during the protests, police officers were being specifically targeted and they were being isolated and attacked.
Describing the entire incident, the ACP said, ‘Yesterday I was on duty in Sector 1 Zone 1, which includes the main area of Jantar Mantar. I was on day duty and I also had evening shift. During the evening shift, I was going from Regal Building in Connaught Place via Sansad Marg towards the red light of Tolstoy and Sansad Marg. A staff of five-six people was leading with me and along with me was ACP probationer Rohit and my operator Navneet. As we were moving forward, we saw that water bottles were being thrown at the staff moving ahead and hooting and anti-social slogans were being raised against the police.
He told that ‘as soon as our police staff moved around a bit, some of them moved forward to save their lives and the crowd surrounded one of them. Blood was flowing from his head. His entire face was soaked in blood, so I tried to save him from there. We brought him forward by a meter or two, but the crowd was very big and violent. They surrounded me too. The crowd was very violent. Police officers were being specifically targeted, they were being isolated and attacked.
ACP Rohit told how the crowd had become violent
Meanwhile, ACP Rohit told that the mob had caught hold of ACP Bhagat and started beating him. He further told that he was trying to leave from there, but the protesters were attacking him with sticks, ACP Vivek was brutally beaten. Later both the ACPs in the RAF team were evacuated from there. During this time the crowd was continuously throwing stones. Delhi Police said that the attackers had the security personnel’s sticks, which they had snatched from the security personnel.

According to Delhi Police, the incident took place at around 8.30 pm near Tolstoy Marg in Connaught Place, in which ACP (Connaught Place) Vivek Bhagat was injured, after which he was immediately admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for treatment.
